Plucking Weeds

I have been reading ‘feminist’ blogs for a while now. They started out being fairly educational and really made me think. Now it seems like they’ve desintegrated into a whole lot of stretching and reaching for things to be irritated by and trying to convince you as to why you should be outraged by them as well. I slowly began plucking these blogs from my feed reader when I saw the things they expected me to be pissed about getting more and more ridiculous. It was like a competition for who could come up with the most infuriating thing to draw in readers.You know what? I’m tired of being told I should be angry about everything. I can not live my life constantly on the look out for something offensive, being perpetually agitated. It’s exhausting and depressing. I have enough craziness in my life without having to actively seek it out online. When I get online, sometimes I just want to veg out. I want to read general ramblings about people’s lives and watch a few funny videos. I want to look up recommendations for new music, books or movies to see and to use them to escape my reality. I want to window shop and look longingly at storage containers and projects for my house.I’ve plucked the weeds from my garden. I’ll continue to pluck them as they pop up. My moods have exponentially improved and stabilized since I dropped those blogs,

A few days ago I contributed what I thought to be a light-hearted experience to a thread about interracial dating. I grew up in a military town and went to a school that had a very diverse population. Despite being raised by my fairly racist grandfather, I never thought twice about seeing people of mixed races together. I dated several different races and ethnicities before I eventually married Chad.All of my friends were surprised to learn that I was marrying a white guy. All of the people we’ve met since we’ve been married have eventually asked if he was Mexican. I mentioned as much on the forums. Some people have come right out and asked what his ethnicity is, some eventually ask in a round about way. Our close friends make jokes towards him that might offend some people. Random people have come up to him, while he was working, and done a double take after asking him a question. They were surprised that he didn’t have a Spanish accent and told him as much.Speaking about my experiences managed to offend someone, though I have no idea how. Seriously.I started talking to my sister about it, while she was getting ready for work. She then told me that the first time one of her friends saw Chad (after she had seen me and our four children), she made the comment that our kids didn’t look biracial.*Bwuh?!I know she didn’t mean any harm when she said it

It’s been a long week. Chad, for the month of July, is on a 5-day-a-week schedule. I realize it’s to up productivity at his job, but he was working a 3 on, 3 off schedule. There are pros and cons with each. He works an hour away and on the 3 on, 3 off schedule he was working 12-13 hours plus an hour of travel both ways. Then again, he was also off for 3 days in a row, really giving him time to wind down and enjoy his time off. It was easier to plan trips, errands and appointments. I do like having him home for dinner, because on the 5-day-schedule he’s working regular 8-hour days. It motivates me to fix a good dinner every night.My hormones are evening out, and with them so are my moods. I’ve got a post coming up about that and how it’s affecting my will to exercise and my desire to eat better. I’ve also got a post coming up about another thing that has helped with my moods. I was pretty productive this week. I got the itch to write and I managed to get a bunch of posts written up and scheduled. I have plenty of time to work on reviews now and I still have great ideas for posts, though most of them have the same message.I’d be lying if I said my moods remained calm all week. The whole victim-blaming fiasco was quite nerve grating. If people would stop being offended by everything on the internet for two seconds, they might actually be
